Is Flash Dying?

Is Adobe Flash on the path of extinction? I don’t know but I know one thing, its becoming more rare everyday, who knew this day would ever come. The web 2.0 movement does not even mention Flash, why is that? is it the simple design of web 2.0 that does not have room for flash? I been a designer for over 10 years, mostly print and in the last 5 years web design, ever since I started designing for the web I used nothing BUT Flash because I could see the future and potential in the technology and how it would change the way we see the web. I will admit, web design is the best its ever been, people are designing smarter and cleaner with the user in mind, it never used to be this way, people used to design around themselves and their ego.

I feel guilty, I recently have placed Flash to the side and working more and more with CSS, maybe because there is no more need for flashy interfaces and transitions, the simpler and cleaner the design the better.

Adobe knows this is happening and thats why they are working to get Apollo up and running. Apollo as I mentioned in a previous post is the new platform from Adobe that combines technologies like, Flash, Flex, JavaScript Ajax etc to build dynamic applications and that is what I believe to be the only thing that will save adobe in the web world. Apollo will be the next phase of web 2.0, they will bring the web to your desktop, literally! even when you are not plugged in and online, and THAT is where Flash will shine again.

Connect 360 is a product by Nullriver for only $20 and a simple download you can stream your itunes to your Xbox 360! even stations. Being a Mac user and an xbox user this is the greatest thing ever. Untill now this could only be done by using Microsoft media center or storing the music onto your xbox. No more!

Is apollo the next web 2.0 platform?

Apollo is the code name for a cross-operating system runtime being developed by Adobe that allows developers to leverage their existing web development skills (Flash, Flex, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax) to build and deploy rich Internet applications (RIAs) to the desktop.

After watching the keynote by Kevin lynch and the 1 hour Alpha release presentation on Lynda.com I believe that this can very well be the next platform for developers. This is a great move by Adobe to bring the amazing flash and flex capabilities in the web 2.0 world and get the credit it deserves.

Cant wait to see what this puppy can do!
